For me, The Search for Skip James is about digging into the past—records, stories, forgotten artists—and pulling them into the present, trying to hear how they resonate with our current moment. It’s not just blues, either. On any given week, I might be down a rabbit hole of long-form jazz, sweet ’60s folk, post-punk, or some bizarre mix of all of the above.

The show is basically a real-time journal. I pull records off my shelves that are calling to me and try to draw a thread from track to track. Maybe I play The Clash as a nod to civil disobedience and the frustrations of our increasingly… let’s say “enthusiastically authoritarian” government. Maybe I reach for some comfort food in the form of a stack of Dylan records.
